Kevin Costner delivered a candid reaction when questioned about his thoughts on his Yellowstone character, John Dutton, being killed off.
The 69-year-old star graced the Governor’s Awards this Sunday and faced the burning question while navigating the red carpet buzz.
In a shocking development that aired during the premiere of Yellowstone’s season five part two, viewers were stunned to witness John Dutton dead in the Governor’s mansion from what appeared to be a self-inflicted fatality.
Despite the shock for fans, Kevin disclosed he wasn’t taken aback by his character’s demise.
As Marc Malkin from Variety inquired whether the plot twist caught him off guard, Costner’s succinct response was: “No. Not really, not really, not really,” before continuing along.
Kevin has opened up before regarding John Dutton’s fate, acknowledging on The Michael Smerconish Program on SiriusXM that he experienced his character’s final moments concurrently with the audience.
He said: “Well, I’m going to be perfectly honest. I didn’t know it was actually airing last night.
“That’s a swear-to-God moment. I swear to God. I mean, I’ve been seeing ads with my face all over the place and I’m thinking, ‘Gee, I’m not in that one.’
“I’m not in this season. But I didn’t realize yesterday was the thing.”
He then shed light on why he chose to leave the hit series Yellowstone after five seasons amidst swirling rumors suggesting he departed for his new Western film series Horizon.
The actor from 3 Days to Kill elaborated: “There was contractual things that would allow for both things to be done, but because both things were contractual, you had to make room for the other thing.
