Kevin Costner shuts down interview as he’s asked about his Yellowstone character’s shock death
Yellowstone viewers were shocked when John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) was found dead in season five and it seems the actor doesn’t like talking about his exit
Kevin Costner gave a rather blunt response as he was asked about his reaction to his character John Dutton being killed off on Yellowstone.
The 69-year-old actor attended the Governor’s Awards on Sunday evening and was asked about the shocking twist as he made his way along the red carpet. Kevin’s character was killed off in the opening moments of Yellowstone’s season five part two premiere.
During the long-awaited episode, fans were left stunned when John was found dead in the Governor’s mansion from an apparent self-inflicted fatality. Kevin, however, admitted he knew it had been coming
Variety’s Marc Malkin asked if he had been surprised when he learned of his character’s fate. Kevin replied, “No. Not really, not really, not really,” as he walked away from the interviewer.
Kevin has previously spoken out about his character’s death. During an appearance on The Michael Smerconish Program on SiriusXM on Monday, Kevin admitted he watched John’s death play out at the same time as viewers.
“Well, I’m going to be perfectly honest. I didn’t know it was actually airing last night,” he revealed. The Hollywood star continued, “That’s a swear-to-God moment. I swear to God. I mean, I’ve been seeing ads with my face all over the place and I’m thinking, ‘Gee, I’m not in that one.’ I’m not in this season. But I didn’t realize yesterday was the thing.”
