Kevin Costner’s Divisive Western Series Hits Streaming This December

Kevin Costner might be known for his many big screen Western hits like Dances with WolvesOpen Range, and Wyatt Earp, but in 2012, the actor took to the small screen alongside the late Bill Paxton to trace the epic saga of one of the most infamous family feuds ever recorded. Hatfields & McCoys debuted on the History Channel 12 years ago to massive ratings, with 13.9 million viewers tuning into Part 1 of the three-part miniseries, and now, the spectacle is set to hit Prime Video next month.

Receiving 16 nominations at the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards (the most since the History Channel began in 1995), Hatfields & McCoys will hit Prime Video on Dec. 1 (per CBR), so if you’ve somehow missed it over the years, now’s your chance to see what all the fuss is about. The series explores the feud between the two families that took place in the West Virginia/Kentucky area during the Civil War in 1863, and lasted all the way up through the early years of The Reconstruction.

In addition to Costner starring as William Anderson “Devil Anse” Hatfield and Paxton portraying Randolph “Randall” McCoy, Hatfields & McCoys also features an all-star cast including Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe, Jena Malone, and Mare Winningham. The divisive series holds a 71% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with its audience score sitting much higher at 93%, making it a clear favorite among Western fans despite what entertainment pundits had to say about the production. All three episodes run roughly two hours each, so expect to be in it for the long haul once you start watching.
