“Kevin Costner Embarks on a Bold New Journey with ‘Headhunters’

Kevin Costner is venturing into a new genre with his upcoming film, Headhunters, a surfing thriller set in Bali.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor, now 69, is moving away from the Westerns that have characterized much of his career, including the less successful Horizon: An American Sagaand his acclaimed role in Yellowstone.

In Headhunters, Costner will not only star but also produce and co-write the film through his Territory Pictures banner. He is teaming up with Steven Holleran, a cinematographer making his directorial debut, who came up with the film’s concept. The project aims to merge the adrenaline of surf culture with elements of horror.

The story unfolds in a tropical paradise that quickly transforms into a survival horror experience. Costner plays Lazer, a weary American ex-pat in Bali, who partners with Bima, portrayed by Daniel Zovatto, in pursuit of the ultimate wave on an uncharted island. However, their quest spirals into a fight for survival filled with bloodshed.

Pre-production is already underway in Hawaii, with filming set to commence next month.

Producer Scott Steindorff praised the script as “one of the best” he has encountered, highlighting Costner’s charisma and depth as an actor.
