Kevin Costner Officially Exits ‘Yellowstone’
Days after hinting at the possibility of returning to “Yellowstone,” Kevin Costner has confirmed he is stepping away from the popular series.
In a video shared on Instagram, Costner expressed his gratitude for the show and its fans. “I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on ‘Horizon’ and reflecting on ‘Yellowstone,’ that beloved series I love, I’ve realized that I won’t be able to continue with Season 5b or into the future,” he stated.
Costner has been focused on his multi-part film project, with the first installment, “Horizon: An American Saga,” set to hit theaters next week. He acknowledged the anticipation surrounding “Yellowstone’s” return on November 10 and emphasized the impact the series had on him. “It changed me. I loved it, and I know you did too,” he said.
In the video, he added, “I wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I cherish the relationship we’ve built, and I look forward to seeing you at the movies.”
Recently on Howard Stern’s show, Costner noted that his return would depend on various factors aligning. “That means the storylines, the scripts, and I want to work more than once a year,” he explained. “When that couldn’t happen, it just wasn’t going to work for me anymore.”
Costner mentioned a conversation with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, stating, “We both expressed what was important to us, but it seems we couldn’t come to an agreement. My whole life has been about standing tall, even in difficult situations.”
Having originated the role of John Dutton, Costner expressed confidence that the series could continue without him. He is heavily involved in the production of “Horizon,” co-writing, co-producing, directing, and starring in the film, which premieres on June 28.
