Netflix fans go wild over forgotten Kevin Costner sports film reaching the top ten spot

One of Kevin Costner‘s most under-rated films is enjoying a new popularity thanks to its addition to a popular streaming platform.

The Oscar winner, 70, made a little film called Draft Day which was released in April 2014, which didn’t really score with audiences at the time, but has found a new life on Netflix. The movie began streaming the film on April 1 and Draft Day made it into the top 10 on Monday April 7 at number 10

In the sports drama, Costner stars as the General Manager of the Cleveland Browns, who must decide if he will trade his number one pick in the NFL draft in order to rebuild his team.

Adding to the pressure, it is on this same day, that his girlfriend and co-worker, played by Jennifer Garner, announces she is pregnant.

The late Chadwick Boseman starred as NFL hopeful Vontae Mack who might help Costner’s Sonny Weaver Jr pull it all together.Kevin Costner’s overlooked 2014 movie Draft Day is enjoying new popularity thanks to Netflix. The movie which debuted 11 years ago this week, is now in the top 10 on Netflix

The film received an okay 60-percent fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, the final global box office of $29.8 million barely covered the movie’s budget. In a Draft Day sub-Reddit, labeled Draft Day on Netflix, one commenter wrote, ‘First time watching… pretty good! Had a bit of everything’ and listing ‘Wheelin’ and dealin’, Puff Daddy, Black Panther, Ray Lewis, Flustered Coz, People being mean to Griff, Cool Ang Lee split screens.’

The commenter added, ‘Most unrealistic part is the first overall QB coming from Wisconsin. UW has never had good quarterbacks (except for the one year Russell Wilson rental).”I had the ideal experience catching it in a hotel. Good movie!,’ wrote another.

Not everyone was in agreement, comparing it to an iconic Costner sports film.

One dissenter said it was a ‘Stark contrast to Bull Durham, which I would say is one of the most realistic sports movies.’

In an interview with Collider in 2014, Costner spoke about his hopes for the project, which sadly, turned out to be director Ivan Reitman’s final feature film’I felt that Draft Day had a chance to be an American classic if we stuck with it,’ he told the outlet.

‘I don’t know if it will be a box office hit, but I think it can be a classic movie, which by definition means it will be shared from generation to generation. To me, that’s the mark of a great movie.’

The veteran star also took credit for one of the movie’s most memorable lines.

‘”Pancake-eating m*therf*cker” was my contribution,’ he said.
