Portrait of Kevin Costner Sells for $35,000 at Auction

The actor attended an event in his honor at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.

On Friday, February 28, Kevin Costnervisited Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West for a special gala held in his honor. The actor was on hand to receive the Western Spirit Award, and the evening’s events included a Q&A with Kevin and an auction to support the Arizona museum’s efforts.Todd Bankofier, CEO of Western Spirit, explained the significance of the event: “Kevin Costner’s passion for the West both personally and professionally truly exemplifies the mission of the Museum and its reverence for the spirit, stories and artifacts that embody this time period in American history. We’re thrilled to be able to honor him for his impressive career which has so eloquently encapsulated the Old West.”The auction items included a Greeley Hat Works Yellowstone Dutton Ranch Stetson styled hat, a Martin X Series Acoustic Guitar, and a director’s chair, all signed by the actor. But the show-stopper was a portrait of Kevin Costner painted by Mark Maggiori. The painting, based on a portrait by Cale Glendening taken on the set of Horizon: An American Saga, ended up selling for $35,000, with all proceeds benefitting the museum’s mission.
